3 Tips to Protect Your Floors From The Dog
1. Rugs Are Your Friend
Rugs and runners are an easy addition to any type of flooring and in any part of the room.
Place them in high-traffic areas to protect your carpet, hardwood, or any other flooring from getting torn or scratched by running paws. This is also a great way to cover up any pre-existing damage.
Of course, your dog can still cause a mess on a rug, so it’s important to have carpet cleaner or shampoo on hand to clean any messes before they become stains.
Another suggestion is machine washable rugs, like Ruggable. I like that they can easily be tossed into the washer any time they become soiled. It makes life so much easier!
2. Invest in a Robot Vacuum
I’ve talked many times about my love for my robot vacuum. I mean, let’s be honest: no one has time to pull the vacuum out every other day, but we all want clean floors.
So what’s a dog mom to do? It’s so simple. Invest in a robot vacuum cleaner. While these are smaller and may not be as thorough as a traditional vacuuming job, they are a great way to stay on top of your shedding pup when you don’t have the time for a full cleaning routine.
Many robot vacuums also come with sensors that allow them to switch from carpet to hard floor, making them an excellent way to pick up hair throughout your entire house.
I run my robot vacuum at least every other day, and I could not love it more.
3. Stay on Top of Messes
Spills, stains, and other messes are inevitable — especially when you live with dogs. Every dog mom knows this, but you may wonder what to do about it.
One of the most important tips protect your floors from the dog is to handle messes as they appear. Clean up spills and accidents quickly, so they can’t seep into your floors and cause staining or structural damage.
I’ve been using a Bissell Crosswave steam mop for a little over a year, and I love it! I can’t recommend it enough to households with dogs.
If you have hardwood floors, be prepared with scratch concealer to take care of any stray claw marks. This is a must if you want to keep your wood floors looking beautiful for years to come.
It’s also a good idea to learn more about your floors and the routine maintenance they require. Learn more about how to take care of your hardwood floors, tile, carpet, or whatever other flooring exists in your home.
You can’t always have a spotless home when you live with dogs. However, when you’re prepared to take care of messes and damages as they occur, you have the ability to maintain a clean and happy environment for both you and the furry members of the family.
