Did you know that an estimated 85 million families in the United States live with a pet in 2020? This is according to the National Pet Owners Survey by the American Pet Product Association.
This is a 56 percent increase from their last survey back in 1988, which shows that being a dog mom is definitely on trend in the twenty-first century!
Most of us are excited to bring a new family member in our households, and many of us put safety features in place for the new pup, which is always a great idea. You can’t make your home too safe for your new furry friend.
However, having a dog can also mean additional messes to clean up, and it definitely makes keeping a clean home a little more of a challenge. Fortunately, there are several cleaning tips that can help dog moms maintain a clean home that the entire family can enjoy. Read below to check it out!

3 Simple House Keeping Tips For Dog Moms
1. Neutralizing Odors In Carpets
Pups have little control over their bladder, which means that they’ll be more likely to pee and poop everywhere, including your rugs and carpet. You can easily neutralize the smell by sprinkling some of this pet-safe carpet sprinkle directly on the spot.
If you’re looking to invest in a quality carpet cleaning machine, you can simply apply a carpet shampoo with your cleaner for areas with low animal traffic. However, when it comes to choosing a quality cleaning machine, the best carpet cleaners come with powerful motors that will get the job done right, the first time.
2. Robotic Vacuum Can Help
I’ve written before about my love for my robotic vacuum cleaner. As a dog mom, I consider it one of the most important tools in my cleaning arsenal. Yes, they can cost a lot of money but my goodness, they’ll change your life!
Many dog breeds shed a lot, which means that there will be plenty of dog hair in your home. If having to vacuum is becoming a chore for you, investing in a robotic vacuum may help reduce the amount of dog hair on your rugs and carpets.
NOTE: Just make sure you introduce your dog to the robotic vacuum to prevent her from getting scared when you activate it. It took Nike a while to decide that ours wasn’t going to eat her alive!
What I love about my robotic vacuum is that it can be pre-programmed to vacuum my floors, which means I don’t even have to think about it. That’s a win, in my book!
3. Install a Food Mat
Not all dogs are dainty eaters. They can spill water and drop food from their dog dish, making quite a mess. In fact, Nike gets water pretty much everywhere in my kitchen!
Instead of constantly scrubbing and mopping your floors, installing a pet food mat is a really helpful alternative. This mat will catch any spills, and it is easy to clean too. You only need to wipe the surface using an anti-bacterial wipe to keep it clean. This also lessens your cleaning tasks too.
As a dog mom, you’re responsible for cleaning up after your dog, but keeping your home spic and span doesn’t have to be a chore. The methods mentioned above can help you maintain your home, no matter how busy you are. This way, you’ll spend less time cleaning, giving you more time to spend with your mutt.
