So The Kids Want a Dog: Puppy Names

#DoggyBlog #Poop4U

I knew before I even brought Georgie home that I wanted to name her after my grandmother. My little pup was Georgie Mae long before she ever trotted into this house and won all our hearts.

One thing I didn’t think of, though, was how similar Georgie sounds to Jordan, which is my son’s name. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been calling to Georgie and my son came out of his room yelling, “Now what, Mom?”

Naming a new puppy has many considerations, and they’re important ones, too. That’s why today I’m sharing a few tips on puppy names that I hope will help you come up with the best name for your furry best friend.

The Most Popular Puppy Names

Consider some of the most popular dog names of 2019. Here are the top 10, according to MentalFloss.com:

  1. Luna
  2. Bella
  3. Charlie
  4. Bailey
  5. Lucy
  6. Cooper
  7. Max
  8. Daisy
  9. Bear
  10. Oliver

Any of these would make a great name for a cute puppy, but there are other things besides popularity to keep in mind. Things such as:

  • Length: the shorter the name, the easier it will be for your puppy to learn.
  • Hard vs. soft consonants: names with hard consonants are easier for dogs to learn to recognize.
  • Pronunciation: everyone in your puppy’s life should be able to properly say her name.
  • Sounds like: just like I mentioned above with Georgie and Jordan, I strongly recommend that your puppy’s name doesn’t sound like any other name in the household or any commonly used words.

See the helpful infographic below from PupBox for more information about this important considerations.
