There are so many dog breeds that enjoy spending time splashing around in the water. From running through sprinklers to soaking in a pool, there are so many fun water activities your furry friend may love, and many of them can be done year-round.
If you live with a half-dog, half-fish hybrid, consider letting your dog unleash her aquatic side with these fun activities for dogs that love the water.
5 Activities for Dogs That Love the Water
1. Paddleboarding
Paddleboarding with your dog is a fun bonding activity. Once you’ve found a prime paddleboarding location, simply have your pooch take a seat on the front of the board. Then, stand behind her and paddle away.
If your dog is more active, consider taking a few breaks to let her hop in the water and go for a swim farther out in whatever lake, river, or ocean you’re in.
If your dog is older or less active, she may prefer to just glide across the water’s surface and enjoy the view.
2. Playing fetch
To make a classic dog activity a little more exciting, take it to the water. Instead of playing fetch in your backyard like usual, toss a ball or stick into the water for your dog to retrieve. Your water-loving pup is sure to appreciate the fun change of pace.
3. Dock-jumping
Dock-jumping is a popular pastime for adventurous dogs who like getting wet. Simply take your pup to a dock with room to run off and teach her how to jump in!
If your canine gets especially good at the sport, consider entering her in a dock-jumping competition where she’ll be judged on speed, distance of jump, and agility.
4. Towing
This enjoyable water activity isn’t just fun for your pup—it’s also a valuable rescue skill. Towing refers to when a dog uses a rope to pull a person or inanimate object through the water. To do this activity, attach a rope to your dog’s life vest or harness and let her tow you as you float in an inner tube.
5. Running through sprinklers
You don’t have to live near a body of water to engage your dog in some aquatic fun. Bring the water to your backyard by setting up a sprinkler system and letting your dog frolic through the spray.
