Dog hair – it’s one of the biggest challenges of keeping a clean home when you live with pets. It can seem like an impossible task to keep your place fur-free, but I promise it’s not.

The thing is, you don’t need a lot of special equipment to tackle the dog hair problem in your home. In fact, keep reading and I think you’ll see that you’ve already got everything you’ll need for the hacks I’m about to share with you.

5 Hacks for Getting Rid of Dog Hair at Home

1. Lint rollers

Lint rollers are super cheap, but they’re hard workers when it comes to removing dog hair from furniture and clothes. It takes just a few seconds to swipe a lint roller across your furniture, but the result will leave the surface fur-free. Lint rollers are also great for getting that pet hair on your car’s upholstery, too.

2. Fabric softener sheets

I don’t use fabric softener sheets in the laundry, but they are amazing for picking up pet hair around the house. I prefer to use the fragrance free ones, but even the cheapest store brand fabric softener sheets will do the trick. You can lightly dampen the fabric softener sheet to increase its effectiveness.

3. Swiffer

Much like fabric softener sheets can remove dog hair from furniture, I love using a dry Swiffer to quickly and easily tackle the dog hair on my hard wood floors. Store brands work just as well and are a little easier on the wallet.

If you’re looking for a “greener” alternative, you can use microfiber cloths, although in my experience they’re not quite as effective the disposable ones.

4. Duct tape

If you’re like me, nothing drives you crazier than all that dog hair that accumulates in the corners of your home. The easiest way I’ve found to quickly grab that hair is duct tape.

Another great option is a hand-held vacuum, because they tend to be able to get into nooks and crannies where a traditional vacuum can’t go. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is my personal favorite.

5. Vacuum cleaner

Speaking of vacuums, one of the best ways to control the pet hair in your home is regular vacuuming. On at least a weekly basis, make sure that you vacuum your furniture and carpets. Sweep the carpets in alternating directions to help loosen embedded pet hair and dirt.

If you’re lucky enough to have a robot vacuum, I recommend running it every other day. Although I don’t personally feel that a robot vacuum cleans as well as the traditional kind, they are great time savers and can make a substantial difference in the cleanliness of your home when you run it every couple of days.
