Every pet is truly a part of the family, and just like humans, they want to go out and experience new things. Whether you’re a homebody or the type to set out on an adventure, including your pet in summer activities can strengthen your bond and create a happy family environment. So, although the summer season is nearing its end, take advantage of the remaining warm days by doing some of these summer activities with your pets.
Visit a Local Beach
Though not every beach allows you to take your pup off their leash, simply taking a walk along the sandy shores can be an exciting experience. If you do have a dog beach in the area, be sure to take full advantage of it by letting them run around and cool off in the water. With plenty of space for activities, this is also the perfect opportunity to play fetch with them and enjoy each other’s company.
Have Some Fun with the Sprinkler
If you don’t have a nearby beach to visit for the day, you can have just as much fun with your pet in the comfort of your backyard. All you need is your sprinkler! Your dog will love running through the water just as much as your kids. It could also be fun to invite some of the neighbors over (dogs included) to cool off, allowing you to catch up with friends while everyone plays.
Head Out on a Camping Trip
As you’re planning your annual summer camping trip, you might want to consider bringing your pet along for the ride. Spending some quality time out in nature is bound to bring the family closer and will allow your dog to see the great outdoors as you do. As a note, it’s important that you pet-proof your RV or car so that your pet doesn’t accidentally damage anything during the trip.
Explore a Farmer’s Market
Though you can’t take your pet to the grocery store with you, you can have them by your side as you browse an outdoor farmer’s market. Expend some of their excess energy by walking them as you shop and allowing them to socialize with the other patrons. You’ll get all your errands done and your pup will get a new experience—along with a treat or two.
Make Pet-Friendly Summer Treats
Your dog might enjoy a scoop of ice cream on a hot day just like you do, but it isn’t always safe for them to consume human food. Experimenting with homemade treat recipes is a fun activity for you and a tasty reward for your pet. Additionally, since you can adjust these recipes to fit their palate, you’re certain to find something your pup will love.
